Fourth post in the ColonySim devlog series. This update brings the long-awaited livestock system — you can now raise chickens, cows, and sheep in your colony.
A new production chain
Before this update, the colony's economy was pretty linear: gather a resource, process it, get a product. Livestock adds another layer: grow grain in your fields, feed the animals, and get valuable goods.
Three new buildings:
- Chicken Coop — 8 wood, 1 worker. Feed corn — get eggs.
- Barn — 15 planks, 2 workers. Rye turns into milk.
- Sheepfold — 12 planks, 1 worker. Produces wool from rye.
Eggs can be cooked into fried eggs or omelets in the kitchen. Wool just accumulates for now — but I already have plans for it 😄
Raw food — a survival mechanic
Another change: meat and fish are now edible raw. This isn't meant as a primary food source — it's more of an emergency option when the kitchen can't keep up or supplies are running low.
Raw food provides less satiety and decreases happiness. It's disabled by default in diet settings — so villagers won't grab raw meat when proper food is available.
What's next
Wool is sitting in the warehouse doing nothing for now, but soon it'll be used to make clothing. And clothing will become a necessity — winter in ColonySim is about to get truly harsh.
